Everyone loves great outdoor furniture. Carefully selected furniture is not only practical but can also breathe life into an outdoor space. Read on for our 7 top tips for choosing outdoor furniture.

1 - Timing is everything. Be ready. If you want your pick of beautiful, practical furniture for the warmer months, the perfect time to order is July or August. Don't wait until the weather warms up, for the best range choice, start searching now.

2 - Made to fit. Having furniture customised to work perfectly in your space is a surprisingly easy and affordable option. Want a deeper sofa (for the tall people in your life)? Perhaps you need longer table for those summer soirées? Or maybe you are just looking for a different colour, finish or fabric. When furnishing your outdoor space, it's important to remember that you don't have to stick to one style.

3 - Made to last. Make sure the furniture you buy has the appropriate materials for function & durability in the outdoor elements. At a minimum:

  • Quick dry foam and air vents to prevent waterlogging – a must.
  • Colourfast materials with a high UV rating for durability. Sunbrella fabric and Batyline mesh are great options.
  • Glass and powder coating should be of a superior quality.

4 - By the sea. If you're living the dream after making a sea change, marine grade stainless steel or powder coated aluminum are the best options for ensuring durability whilst maintaining style.

5 - Size matters. Outdoor dining chairs tend to be wider than indoor chairs. A 2.2m outdoor table would typically fit 8 chairs. Ask for professional advice on table lengths and chair options to suit your space.

6 - You get what you pay for; if it’s cheap, don't’ expect it to last. But conversely, if it is very expensive, you may be getting less than you paid for. Look for stylish, well-designed furniture which functions well and is well priced for the quality.

7 - Eco-friendly Teak is well known as the ideal wood for outdoor furniture; it’s high oil content makes it very durable. Choose furniture made from A grade Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified or recycled teak.
